INTRODUCTION
------------
This is a walkthrough for the Super Mario 2 part of Super Mario Advance. As most
of you may know, Super Mario Advance is a combination of Super Mario Bros. 2 and
the classic Mario Bros. Super Mario 2 is the main part of the game, with new
features and graphics to make it way better than it's earlier versions on the NES
and SNES.
New features are things such as slightly new level designs, new items, bigger
enemies and items, new secrets, new dream-world creatures, new rotating effects,
hidden Ace Coins and Yoshi Eggs, new sounds, voices for characters and bosses,
and more! The game is outstanding, and has incredible replay value.
As much as I love Mario Bros., there isn't much to write about it so this FAQ
is strictly Super Mario 2. It will help with finishing stages, finding Ace Coins
and Yoshi Eggs, boss strategies, etc. So, please enjoy!

CHARACTERS
----------
Like the original, there are four playable characters. Each one has their own
unique abilities and stats. No character is better than the other, but some char-
acters are better at certain obstacles than others.

"His skills are the most balanced of the characters." ~ Manual
Basically, like always, Mario is the most well-rounded character of them all. He
has average jumping, speed, and power. He's perfect for beginners and is pretty
much great for almost any stage!
STATISTICS
Jump (Good) - Mario has a normal jump.
Speed (Good) - Mario isn't the fastest, but still fast.
Power (Good) - Mario can pull up items rather quickly.

"He's got loads of jump ability, but he's rather slow." ~ Manual
Luigi is surprisingly the highest jumper. Not best, but highest. He, however,
suffers from bad power and speed. He's good for stages with high platforms, but
he's bad when running and pulling vegetables is the case. He's better for
experts since he slides around a lot, due to clumsiness.
STATISTICS
Jump (Great) Luigi jumps very high, but is sensitive in the air & ground.
Speed (Ok) -- Luigi is slow, but not the slowest.
Power (Ok) -- Luigi is weak, but not the weakest.

"He has the weakest jump but lots of power." ~ Manual
The characters' stats are very surprising. You'd figure Mario would be the best
jumper. And Toad is actually the most athletic of the characters! He is the strong-
est and fastest. Vegetable magnetism, possibly? However, he has the worst jump
like a broken pogo stick. He's very similar to Mario in gameplay style.
STATISTICS
Jump (Bad) --- He can't jump very high or far.
Speed (Great) He is very fast!
Power (Great) He can pick up anything quickly!

"She can float on air for about 1 1/2 seconds when you hold the A Button down."
~ Manual
Peach has some of the weakest stats. However, she still remains as one of the
best characters. "How" you ask? Well, she has the ability to float in mid-air
if the hold down the A Button. She may not jump high, but she can make a lot of
distance with her jump. She's great for beginners.
STATISTICS
Jump (Good) -- Peach can float in mid-air, making great distance.
Speed (Bad) --- Peach is the slowest character.
Power (Bad) --- Peach is the weakest character.

BASIC GAMEPLAY
--------------
Super Mario 2 is very different from the prequal and later games. There are no
Goombas, no Koopas, no ? blocks, no Fire Flowers, no warp pipes. It's all gone!
You don't even defeat enemies by jumping on them! Instead, you pull up vegetables
and items from the ground and pelt enemies with them. You can even pick up
enemies and use them as ammo! There are other different gameplay elements,
which are explained below.
JUMPING
Press the A Button and you'll jump. Like any Mario game, or basically any platform
game, holding A makes you jump higher until you reach the jump's peak.
SUPER JUMP
Hold down to duck. Once your character grunts and begins flashing, you're Super
Jump is charged. Now, without moving left or right, jump to perform a much higher
jump with new redrawn sprites to make your character do an SM64-style flip! If
you move while flashing, you'll lose the charge.
LIFTING AND THROWING
Red patches of grass are spread out through the game on the ground. Stay on top of
one and press the B Button to pull up a vegetable, item, or even an enemy from the
ground! Now, you can use the B Button to throw it. If you throw it while standing
still, it goes at about a -45 degree angle forward. If you are moving, or running,
while throwing, it goes a much better distance forward. Use these two types of
throws to your advantage. Some items, heavier items, fall straight down when doing
a normal standing throw. To pick up enemies, you must stand on their heads (you
can use them as stepping stones or even ride them without taking damage!) and press
B to pick them up. Most items and vegetables will disappear off the screen when
thrown, but enemies do not. You can use this to your advantage to relocate them.
Note that some enemies do disappear when thrown.
DIGGING
In some areas, the only way to go is down through the dirt. Simply press B, as if
trying to pick up the ground and you'll dig up one tile of dirt. Not all dirt can
be dug up.
DUCKING AND RUNNING
Hold down to duck, which is useful for avoiding some projectiles (not all
projectiles are high enough to duck under, like Birdo's eggs and fireballs). You
can also try jumping while ducking and you'll do a ducking jump. This is a jump
where you are still ducking in mid-air, making you 1/2 the size. It's useful to
get through tiny holes. Also, if you hold the B or R button, you'll run. Use this
to your advantage to make longer running jumps.
CLIMBING
Vines, chains, ladders; they can all be climbed. Stand in front of them and press
Up to begin climbing, or Down to slide back down. Be careful not to fall off the
sides by pressing Left or Right!
JARS
Jars take the place of warp pipes. Simply stand on top of these giant jars and
press down to go inside. Usually, there are goodies inside of jars like 1-Ups,
Hearts, and Shells. Sometimes even Keys, which are required to progress through
the game. Investigate jars; they're not dangerous at all. Some jars are actually
shortcuts to other stages, but can only be entered in Subspace.
SUBSPACE
When you dig up an item called a Magic Potion, throwing it down will create a door.
Enter the door to enter Subspace, a mirrored version of the normal world. There
are no enemies, but you'll quickly go back to the normal world. In Subspace, you can
find Mushrooms, Yoshi Eggs, and the grass patches all contain Coins.
DOORS
Stand in front of doors or entryways and simply press Up to enter them. You cannot
enter doors that are floating in mid-air.

ITEMS AND GOODIES
-----------------
There are many items in the game, some are hidden in grass patches while some are
in clear sight. Most are used to attack, while others may refill life. Here is an
explanation of each.
VEGETABLES
These large vegetables, ranging from a variety of radishes, carrots, peppers, and
turnips, take a little longer to pull them and can be used to attack enemies.
GIANT VEGETABLES
The new larger vegetables take a very long time to pull up, but are bigger so they
can hit enemies easier.
SMALL VEGETABLES
These take very little time to pull up, and are good as weapons as well. None of the
vegetables are more powerful than others.
HEART RADISHES
Pulling up a Heart Radish automatically turns into a recovery Heart, restoring one
Heart Container. These are incredibly helpful and are often spread out near bosses
for your use.
MUSHROOM BLOCKS
These blocks have many uses. Pick the heavy objects up and toss them as weapons, or
use them as stepping stones. Stack them up and use them to your advantage. Some-
times, items are hidden under them.
BOMBS
The bomb is used to blow up disposable walls (they look a lot rockier). When they
start flashing, they'll soon explode so quickly toss them down or else the BOMB!
explosion will harm you. You can pick them up after dropping them; just hop on top
of them!
POW BLOCKS
Toss a POW block and every enemy on the ground on the screen will automatically
be defeated.
GIANT POW BLOCKS
The giant-sized versions bounce around on the screen until they disappear, repeat-
adily disposing of enemies on the ground.
COINS
Coins can only be found in Subspace. Pull up any grass patch to collect one. Coins
give you one play on the Slot Machine game, played at the end of the every stage.
SHELLS
The shells are now giant-sized. Throw them and they'll defeat every enemy they hit.
They now bounce off of walls instead of normally disappearing. You can also hop
on them for a ride. Be careful; the shell can now hurt you, too! Every enemy defeat-
ed with a shell results in a Heart no matter what.
ACE COINS
There are five coins hidden in every stage. Collect all five to get a 1-UP. Collect
all of them in the game to get a 100%-clear rating.
MUSHROOMS
Only found in Subspace. Pick one up to eat it. You'll restore all life and get an
extra Heart Container, for that stage only.
1-UP MUSHROOM
Sometimes, they are hidden underground. Other times, you may find them in bubbles.
Hit the bubble with three vegetables of any size to pop the bubble. Then, you can
get the 1-UP. 1-UP Mushrooms give you an extra life.
HEARTS
Unlike before, the Hearts will not float up from the bottom of the screen randomly
but now, instead, be spread out throughout the stages. Simply touch one and you'll
recover one Heart Container. If you defeat more than two enemies, one will float
up for that enemy and each enemy after that. You automatically gain one from pick-
ing a Heart Radish.
KEYS
Pick up the large keys and run! The Phanto enemy, the guarder of keys, will begin to
chase you. As long as you aren't holding the Key, he won't chase you. In that
case, throw it to get him off your tail. Enter a locked door while holding the
Key to enter it. You can also defeat enemies with the Key.
MAGIC POTIONS
Dig one up and throw it. It will create a door to Subspace. Sometimes, the Mushroom
or Yoshi Egg is not near the grass patch where you got the Potion, so you may need
to move around a little. Sometimes, there is no Mushroom or Yoshi Egg but the
Potion is used for shortcuts or coins.
LUCKY CHERRIES
These just sit around the stages. Grab five of them and a Starman will begin to
float up from the bottom of the screen.
STARMAN
Grab the Starman to become temporarily invincible, defeating any enemy you merely
touch. You can get a lot of points for defeating multiple enemies at once.
STOP WATCH
Pick four large vegetables. The fifth one you pick will be a stop watch. It will
automatically take action, freezing all enemies on the screen. They can still harm
you if you run into them, but they can't move! This freeze is only temporary.
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------------+#
#################################################################################
SLOT MACHINE
------------
At the end of every stage, you play the Slot Machine game. For each Coin you
collected in the stage, you get to play. If you don't collect any Coins, you don't
get to play at all. A new feature in SMA! You can choose how many Coins to bet,
resulting in much higher winnings!
If you have at least 1 Cherry on the machine, you get a 1-Up!
If you have at least 2 Cherries on the machine, you get a 2-Up!
If you have all 3 Cherries on the machine, you get a 3-Up!
If you have all 3 Lucky 7's on the machine, you get a 5-Up!
If you have all 3 of any other picture, you get a 2-Up!
Wager x Picture Value = Number of Bonus Lives!
So, in that case, if you bet 10 coins and got a 3-up, you would get a 30-up!

ENEMIES
-------
There are a lot of unique enemies found in SMB2. Because I was bored, I also noted
if these enemies appeared in future Mario games and all the games that, to my
knowledge, they did appear in.
SHY GUY
These are the "Goombas" of the game. All they do is walk. They are vulnerable to
virtually any kind of attack. Like Koopas, red ones will walk off of platforms and
even follow you, but blue ones stay put on platforms. Shy Guys later become the
main enemy of Yoshi games, and is even playable in Mario Tennis!
SNIFIT
Snifits look like gray Shy Guys, but are different. Like Shy Guys, they also come
in a variety of colors. Gray ones don't walk, but fire bullets constantly. Red ones
walk off platforms, and follow you, while blue ones stay put on a platform. Red
and blue ones very rarely fire shots. Snifits are characters in Super Mario RPG,
and also appear in Mario Party 3.
NINJI
These black star-like things do nothing but hop up and down. Up and down, up and
down. Some will run after you, and hop to confuse you. They are basically hopping
Shy Guys; they are weak to anything. They make a return in Super Mario World, for
a brief moment at the very end of Bowser's Castle.
BEEZO
These are like flying Shy Guys with pointy forks. They swoop down to your level,
then chase after you. Very annoying. You can ride them, but doing so requires you
keep moving or else you'll slide off. Bad idea. Beezo is an enemy in Super Mario RPG.
HOOPSTERS
They climb trees, chains, vines, etc. They can be defeated virtually any way
possible, like most enemies.
TWEETER
Tweeters are little masked birds that walk around and hop. They are basically
hopping Shy Guys. You can ride them, like Shy Guys, to get over spikes. Tweeters
appear in Nimbus Land on Super Mario RPG as soldiers for the castle.
PHANTO
Phanto won't harm you unless you steal the key. He'll chase you until you drop the
key, but he'll start again as soon as you pick it back up. He'll also disappear if
you enter a locked door with the key. Phanto cannot be defeated.
TROUTER
These are like Piranha Fish. They hop out of waterfalls, then go back down. Some-
times, you must use them as stepping stones in order to get over waterfall pits.
You can pick them up, but you'll probably fall to your doom after losing your
little stepping stone.
PORCUPO
These are purple hedgehogs. Unlike almost any enemy on the game, you cannot pick
them up because of their sharp quills. Defeat them any other way but that. Porcupo
was an enemy in Yoshi's Island.
BOB-OMB
Bob-ombs are very annoying. Albatoss like to throw them onto you, which is very
annoying. They chase you down until they explode. You can pick them up, but they
may explode on you. Sometimes, you may accidentally dig one up. Throw it immed-
iately! It's already about to explode! Bob-ombs quickly made a reappearance in
Super Mario Bros. 3, and soon became a very common Mario character.
ALBATOSS
Albatoss are big birds that drop Bob-ombs on you. They can't be defeated, but you
can ride them. Unlike Beezo, you don't have to move to ride them making them per-
fect for shortcuts.
PIDGIT
Pidgit owns a magic carpet. He'll swoop down and try to hit you. When he does, hop
onto his back and throw him off the carpet. Now the carpet is ours. Simply move
the Control Pad and you'll move the carpet. When it begins to flash, it will
disappear short after so jump off!
COBRAT
Cobrats are big red snakes. They hide in quicksand and jars. You can usually see
their beady eyes peering out. Be careful; some spit out bullets! If you throw
them, they'll disappear from the screen.
PANSER
Panser is a flower that spits fireballs around. It can't be picked up, so throw
an enemy or item at it. Some Pansers actually walk (the blue ones), which can be
a huge pain.
OSTRO
Ostro is a pink flaminco that usually lets Shy Guys ride them. Pick up the Shy Guy
and defeat the Ostro with it; the Ostro gives you a Heart no matter how you defeat
it. These things aren't much of a threat.
POKEY
Pokeys are moving cacti, made up of four balls. You can pick up its head, but then
the next ball becomes its head until nothing is left. For a quick Heart, pick up
its head and hit the bottom ball to defeat the entire enemy. Pokeys can move right
through any objects, even walls! Pokeys made a reappearance in an early stage of
Super Mario World, and I spotted them in Super Mario 64 again.
AUTOBOMB
These are cannons on wheels, with a Shy Guy riding. When the Shy Guy is riding, it
will fire fireballs at you, so watch out! Throw the Shy Guy off and you can ride
the Autobomb over spikes and such. I wish I knew what the "M" stood for.
FLURRY
These pinkish snowmen won't stop until they've tracked you down! They will continue
chasing you. They slide around, which can increase their speed by may make them
slide to their unfortunate doom (pit). They can be defeated like any enemy.
SPARK
Very, VERY annoying. These sparks (hence the name) move around platforms and objects.
Touching them is a bad idea. Defeat them any other way. Use a POW Block for a
quick victory, since they are always stuck to a surface. I believe I saw Spark
in Super Mario World, and I remember him from Yoshi's Island.
BOSSES
------
I believe there is a boss in almost every stage, so get used to it. Only one of
the bosses ever reappears in Mario games, and she is the most popular!
BIRDO
Birdo is the boss of almost every stage, coming in a variety of colors to increase
difficulty. The pink ones fire normal eggs, slowly. Red ones fire a combination of
fireballs and eggs, while green ones fire only fireballs. (?) Anyway, the tradi-
tional one of defeating one is to jump atop the egg she spits, pick it up, and toss
it back at her. Sometimes, there are no eggs for use. So, try the Mushroom Blocks
that are usually around her. Birdo makes a lot of appearances in future Mario games.
However, I can only think of two. She appears in Wario's Woods and is even playable
in Mario Tennis!
MOUSER
You battle Mouser twice throughout the game. His main attack is bombs. He throws
bombs. Pick them up before they explode and chuck them back at him!
TRYCLYDE
This three-headed snake spits a ton of fireballs, but his fireballs can't pass
through Mushroom Blocks. Make a barrier of Mushroom Blocks, then use the left-
overs to bean him with.
ROBIRDO
A robotic Birdo. More on the strategies.
FRY GUY
This fireball is a hot head. Avoid his fireballs, then smash his hot head with some
Mushroom Blocks. When he splits into four miniature fireballs, squash each one with
a Mushroom Block. They increase in speed as each one is defeated, so watch out!
CLAWGRIP
Catch the rocks he tosses at you, then toss them back. I have a much better
strategy, but read the walkthrough.
WART
The last boss hates vegetables. If you throw them into his mouth, he'll definitely
have a stomache ache. The mannerless beast will fire snot bubbles at you, so
watch out for the poisonous balls!
DREAM-WORLD CREATURES
---------------------
The remake introduces dream-world creatures, which have no use at all but are
obviously here just to show off the GBA's rotation effects. These are not official
names.
YELLOW BALLOON
He hides under small hills. Stand on the hill and he'll pop up, holding the hill
up. Rather useless ... you DO have Super Jumps, ya know.
ROLLING BALL
You can stand on this ball and jump to automatically perform a Super Jump. Pick it
up and throw it and it will roll along walls, like Sparks, and defeat any enemy it
touches.
BLUE SPIKE
This frosty spike is actually an enemy! It can't be defeated, but will harm you if
you touch it in any way, so be careful!
* Most of these enemies are only found in useless jars.

WALKTHROUGH
-----------
This will walk you through every stage. The game is pretty straight-forward by
itself, but if you get stuck, here's the answer. Or, if you need to know where the
Ace Coins or Yoshi Eggs are, they'll be listed before the stage walkthrough for
your convenience.
WORLD 1 - GRASS LANDS
---------------------
World 1-1
This stage is pretty simple, introducing you to the game. It's quite surprising
that the next stage is a lot easier!
ACE COINS #1 It's in plain sight near the start of the second screen.
#2 It's in between the two logs on the last waterfall w/logs.
#3 Go inside the cave and you'll find it easily.
#4 When climbing the plateau, it's on the rightmost cloud.
#5 It's beside the leftmost vine near the end of the plateau area.
YOSHI EGGS #1 Pick up the Potion on the first plateau of the second screen. Drop
down and create the door to the right of the vine.
#2 In the plateau area, enter the single jar. Pull up the leftmost
grass patch for the Potion. Leave the jar. Create the door beside the
jar. The egg will be at the top of the screen.
* BOMB SHORTCUT
In the cave, climb up the vine and make a running jump to the left. (Nintendo Power
Advance says Toad can't make the jump, but he can.) Super Jump up and toss the
Shy Guy aside. Pick up the bombs and throw them down when they are about to
explode. If your timing is right, you'll destroy the stony wall (to the left).
Go through the door and you'll be in an unusual area. Super Jump up to the plant,
then jump left off of the screen and run left. You're at Birdo!
* DEFEAT BIRDO
The first Birdo is very simple. Pick up the eggs she fires and toss them back.
She's slow and simple; no problem. Mario and Toad are always the best characters
to use to fight Birdo, since Luigi and Peach have trouble landing on the eggs.
World 1-2
This stage is very simple, even easier than the last. And's it very short. I can
cut off half of the stage with a shortcut I've found, and known about, for a long
time.
ACE COINS #1 When riding the carpet at the start, stay low and you'll get it.
#2 Immediately go higher to get the next one.
#3 It's on top of the hill that the locked door is on.
#4 It's inside the cave.
#5 Right before the boss door. Super Jump to reach it.
YOSHI EGGS #1 Pick up the first plant after your carpet ride to get the Potion.
Throw it near the Ninjis. The egg will appear where they were.
#2 Inside the cave, destroy the first wall with the bombs. Now, go up
the ladder and find the plant with the Potion. Create a door, then
climb down the ladder to where the Snifit was. The egg now rests
there.
(FOR SOME REASON, #1 IS DISPLAYED AS #2 ON THE GAME.)
* SHORTCUT
To skip the entire cave part, use Luigi for this stage. Grab a Ninji and toss
it in front of the door. Stand on it and charge your Super Jump. When the Ninji
jumps as high as it can, Super Jump up and you'll be on top of the hill. Move
right and you'll be on the other side of the cave's exit!
World 1-3
A little more complex, and slightly longer. Still, quite simple.
ACE COINS #1 At the very start, on the first plateau.
#2 In between the two logs at the last waterfall w/logs.
#3 Beside the vase at the end of the first screen.
#4 When falling down to the locked door, it sits on the left wall.
#5 In the locked door, you'll spot it easily.
YOSHI EGGS #1 Get the Potion beside the bridge at the start of the stage. Drop down
under the bridge, where all of the Trouter and Ninji are, and create
a door. It is under the bridge.
#2 Enter inside the dungeon and, near the top, enter the vase and come
out with the Potion. Create a door immediately and you'll spot the egg.
* SHORTCUT TO WORLD 4
Take a Potion to the vase beside the door (the entrance to the dungeon). Go in
the vase while in Subspace to take a giant leap, all the way to 4-1!
* DEFEATING MOUSER
This is the first time you fight Mouser. Stand under his platform and try to catch
his bombs (letting them fall on your head). When they are about to detonate, plant
one close to him. Repeat this pattern until you hit him three times and he is
defeated. Before you can reach him, you have to destroy the wall blocking him.
Use Bombs in the patches around you.
WORLD 2 - DESERTS 1
-------------------
The desert stages are surprisingly rather easy. You revisit desert stages in world
6, and this is when they are really difficult. But, for now, savor the easy ones.
World 2-1
Very straight forward. It does require some digging, but not much.
ACE COINS #1 At the very start, above the bone logs.
#2 Above the cactus right before the Panser (on the first screen).
#3 Above, to the right, of the last cactus in the first screen.
#4 Found on the right side while digging.
#5 Found farther down on the left side while digging.
YOSHI EGGS #1 On the first block structure of the first screen, jump atop and pull
out the Potion. Throw it down. You'll see the egg fall into the
quicksand; get it before it sinks!
#2 Defeat the Panser. Under it is the Potion. Throw it down on top of
the block structure and the egg will be up there.
World 2-2
This one requires much more digging, and introduces you to a red Birdo at the end.
It's still very easy.
ACE COINS #1 At the start of the second screen, it's above the first bone log.
#2 Above, to the left, of the log that goes down the faster quicksand.
#3 Atop the block structure at the end of the second screen.
#4 Found while digging; can't miss it.
#5 Same as #4.
YOSHI EGGS #1 After the faster quicksand with the log going down it, find the door
on the wall. Enter. Using Bombs, blow up the left wall and go in.
Pick up the Potion on the block structure and return to the door.
Create a door beside that door and enter.
#2 In the room where you dig, dig all the way to the bottom-left. Go to
the vase and get the Potion to the left of it. Now, jump all the way
back to the top of the sand and create a door at the top.
* SECRET ROOM
After the faster quicksand, there's a door (where you find Yoshi Egg #1). If you
blow up the wall and go left, you can find a Potion. Create a door on the structure
of blocks to get a Mushroom and some coins.
* RED BIRDO
Red Birdo fires three projectiles, then rests. She randomly fires either eggs or
fireballs. You can defeat her the old fashioned way, with her eggs, or carry the
Mushroom Blocks over to her and defeat her with those. Watch out for the eggs!
Even when they hit the wall and fall off the screen, they can still hurt you.
World 2-3
This one requires MUCH more digging, but is still very easy.
ACE COINS #1 Above the first cactus of the second screen.
#2 In between the 5th and 6th cacti of the second screen.
#3 When entering the pyramid, fall down the left side and grab it.
#4 When digging to get the key, dig on the left side to get it.
#5 In the room before Tryclyde, it's over the sandy pyramid structure.
YOSHI EGGS #1 As soon as you enter the second screen, pick up the Potion to the
right of the ladder, create the door. The egg is beside the ladder.
#2 Once entering the pyramid, fall off the right side. When you land,
jump atop the platform with two plants. One is a Potion. Create a door
on the platform and the egg is in plain sight.
* SHY GUYS VS. POW
Once entering the pyramid, go down the vase on the left and come back with the
POW Block. Drop down the right side. When you land, you'll see tons of Shy Guys.
Use the POW Block to get a lot of points.
* DEFEATING TRYCLYDE
The three-headed snake basically spits a non-stop barrage of fireballs. However,
these fireballs cannot travel through Mushroom Blocks. In that case, stack up a
barrier of blocks. Then, super jump over them and chuck the left over blocks at
Tryclyde. You may need to use some from your barrier if you run out. Hit him 3
times and he's out of commission.
WORLD 3 - CAVES
---------------
These stages are A LOT harder than the previous ones. Get ready for a quick change
in difficulty, and a lot of bomb throwing and Beezo-dodging.
World 3-1
There aren't really any caves yet, but there are later. This stage actually takes
place a lot in the air.
ACE COINS #1 It's above the hill with the door at the second screen's start.
#2 Drop down the waterfall beside the door and stay on the left.
#3 When riding the carpet, there's one in the center.
#4 There's another to the left of the vine.
#5 Once climbing the vine, use Luigi or Peach to jump left into the door.
YOSHI EGGS #1 Jump down the waterfall and into the door. The sixth plant from the
right is a Potion. Create a door beside the vase and the egg will fall
onto your head.
#2 Beside the first Panser in the clouds, get the Potion on the green
hill. Create a door on that hill. The egg will appear on the cloud
above the hill.
* WARP TO WORLD 5
Want to skip World 3 all together? Go into the secret cave (by jumping down the
waterfall) and create a door beside the vase. Hop in the vase while in Subspace
to warp straight to 5-1!
* SHORTCUT TO BIRDO AND FIFTH ACE COIN
Once climbing the vine, you can take a shortcut to Birdo (and collect the last
Ace Coin) by using Luigi or Peach to make a running jump left. You'll reach a
door. Inside, blow up the wall. Get the Ace Coin, then jump atop the two blocks
on the left wall. Super jump up-left and run over the hill to get to Birdo.
World 3-2
This one has a lot of underground, bomb action. The start is difficult, due to
annoying Beezos, but just keep running!
ACE COINS #1 In between the 5th and 6th wooden poles above ground on the 1st screen.
#2 Left of the giant POW Block that is covering up a hole.
#3 Near the end of the 1st screen, above ground, near the Potion.
#4 Once going underground, move as far left as possible to find it.
#5 Near the three pillars over pits that lead to a ladder.
YOSHI EGGS #1 At the very end of the 1st screen, above ground. Get the Potion from
the hill with the Snifit. The egg will drop onto the disposable blocks
near the hill. Don't destroy the blocks or you'll lose the egg!
#2 At the area where you must time your bomb throwing (like in the 1-1
shortcut to Birdo) to proceed, instead of taking the ladder to Birdo,
continue left. The leftmost plant is a bomb. Blow up the disposable
blocks on the left side. The rightmost plant is a Potion. The egg will
be under the disposable blocks on the left.
* BOMBS
There is a lot of bomb usage in the underground area. You'll come to a part where
the way out is the bottom level. There are four walls to destroy. Start by using
two bombs from the top level to dispose of the first two walls, then use the two
bombs from the bottom level to finish the final two. If you do it any other way,
you may find it very difficult.
World 3-3
This stage is very hard, especially if you are trying to get the Yoshi Eggs. It's
very long, as well.
ACE COINS #1 Over the last wooden post of the second screen.
#2 On the 3rd screen, take the first door and climb up. Super Jump to it.
#3 When climbing up to the door at leads outside, it's on the left.
#4 Right above the door used to exit to outside.
#5 On the platform behind the hawk's mouth.
YOSHI EGGS #1 At the start of the 2nd screen, after the 3 posts (each one higher
than the other), pick up the rightmost plant for a Potion. Move back
and create a door on the 2nd post. The egg is on the 3rd post.
#2 After climbing up the plus-shaped platforms, instead of entering the
door on the right, keep going up. Try to Super Jump onto the blue
structure without hitting the army of Sparks and Ninji. If success-
ful, climb up the right ladder. Pick the rightmost Potion at the top.
Drop back down and create a door on the blue structure.
* 99 EXTRA LIVES INSTANTLY
Thanks to Nintendo Power Advance (for a lot of this guide, by the way). Once
entering the room that leads to the key (with tons of Shy Guy vases), at the top,
pick the plant for a Shell. Return to the bottom and throw it into the hole where
the door is. Shy Guys will begin walking into the hole and get defeated. Continue
until you begin collecting enough points to gain 1-Ups. Pretty soon, you'll be
maxed out at 99 lives! Just be patient.
* NINJI SHORTCUT
For a huge shortcut, take the first door in the 3rd screen. Pick up the Ninji at
the bottom and climb to the top with it. Once you reach the dead end, throw it
down on the highest, leftmost platform. Jump on it and charge a Super Jump. When
it reaches its highest jump, Super Jump up-left. You have now skipped the key
and plus-shaped structure parts completely!
* DEFEATING ROBIRDO
For this remake, Nintendo invented a new boss. This boss is rather difficult,
and takes a while to beat. I recommend using Mario or Toad, since you have to
pick up giant-sized eggs. Hang on the chains the entire time. Robirdo's ground
pound and ramming attacks can't harm you that way. When she fires giant eggs,
land on the first one and pick it up. Immediately bean her with it, then immedi-
ately grab the chain. If you don't, she'll ram you. You can stand on her head,
though it does no good. You have to hit her 5 times. There are plenty of Hearts
and Heart Radishes for your taking.
WORLD 4 - SNOWLANDS
-------------------
A platform game isn't complete without ice stages. The ice stages are surpringly
very easy, except for the longer 4-3. Still, it's a sinch.
World 4-1
This stage is short and VERY simple. Don't even worry. All of the Ace Coins are
in plain sight and easy to get, making them hard to explain.
YOSHI EGGS #1 There's a platform with an Ace Coin under it. Beside it is a Potion.
Take the Potion to the right where the fish are jumping. The egg
is near there.
#2 Before the rocket upwards, there's a Potion. Create the door right
there. The egg is where the plant for the rocket would be.
World 4-2
This stage is easy, as well. The start can be difficult for a newbie, but try
ducking and weak jumping to get passed the barrage of Beezos.
ACE COINS #1 In plain sight at the start of the 1st screen.
#2 In plain sight after the first jump on the 1st screen.
#3 On the tail of one of the whales.
#4 On the tail of another whale after #3.
#5 Near the Autobomb; can't miss it.
YOSHI EGGS #1 Once entering the whale area, go left. Pick the Potion that's on top
of the leftmost whale (is the whale growing mold or something?). The
egg will be on the leftmost side of the second whale.
#2 After the fourth whale, there are four pillars. The last one has a
Potion. The egg is on the first iceblock to the right of that pillar.
* 1-UP AT START
Simply defeat the Porcupos with the giant POW Block at the very start of the stage
for an instant 1-Up. This one's kind of obvious.
* SHORTCUT TO WORLD 6
Another warp. Get the Potion from the fourth pillar after the fourth whale and go
right. The first vase you find is the warp. Put the Potion down beside it and use
the vase in Subspace to warp straight to 6-1!
* AUTOBOMB OVER SPIKES
Throw the Shy Guy off the Autobomb and use it to get over the spikes. Be sure to
duck. And don't hold the Shy Guy or else you'll fall off. On the other side are
two Porcupos; it's hard to avoid them without Luigi or Peach!
World 4-3
Bigger isn't always neccessarily better. This stage is very big, and very slick.
It's difficult as well; at least the boss is a sinch.
ACE COINS #1 Up above the little island after riding Birdo's egg; use Luigi.
#2 Enter the first door, climb up the icy platforms, it's on the left.
#3 In the room where you have to ride a Shy Guy, it's in plain sight.
#4 To the right of the locked door.
#5 In the room before the boss, upperleft corner of the room.
YOSHI EGGS #1 Near the Birdo at the start of the stage, pick up the leftmost plant
for a Potion. Now go all the way left. The egg is atop the largest
snow plant (the middle one).
#2 After entering, going up, then going back outside again, you'll find
a small area with seemingly no use. Pick up the Potion and go left.
Climb the clouds to the top of the castle. Create a door on the first
platform of the castle. The egg will be on top of you.
* RIDE BIRDO'S EGG
In order to make any progress in the stage at all, ride on top of one of Birdo's
eggs at the start to the right, over the water.
* SHORTCUT
Instead of taking the first door into the castle, use Luigi or Peach to make a
running jump to the right for a minor shortcut. However, you miss an Ace Coin if
you do this.
* DEFEATING FRY GUY
He's rather simple. I recommend using Peach or Toad. Stay on top. Pick up a Mush-
room Block, but (if using Peach) immediately float so you don't fall off. When
Fry Guy comes over, throw it on his head. If you dropped the Mushroom Block down,
get the other one and use it. If both fall down, sneak down and get one to hit him
once more. When he's hit 3 times, he splits into 4 miniature Fry Guys. Defeat each
one with a Mushroom Block to win. Toad is also recommended since he can pick up
Mushroom Blocks so quickly.
WORLD 5 - FOREST
----------------
These stages, except for the last, are rather easy. They can be frustrating if you
are trying to get Ace Coins or Yoshi Eggs, but still, easy.
World 5-1
This is a short level, where you go over waterfalls using logs and Trouters as your
platforms. I highly recommend using Luigi or Peach here.
ACE COINS #1 Right beside the Panser at the start.
#2 In between the 2nd and 3rd logs inside.
#3 In between the 3rd and 4th logs inside, near the bottom.
#4 After the 5th log, with the Trouters as stepping stones. Can't miss.
#5 Go down the waterfall with the last Trouter. Try to jump back up.
YOSHI EGGS #1 Grab the Potion at the start and take it with you all the way passed
the logs and Trouters. Then you'll be on a plateau with a log and
another plateau in front of you. The egg is on the plateau in front
of you.
#2 You must use Luigi to get this. At the last two logs, hop onto the
left edge of the last log while it's at the very top. Make a running
jump forward OVER the screen. Drop down to the left Mushroom Block
that's just floating there. Pick it up and fall down. Pick the Potion
and go inside. The egg will fall down the hole the Mushroom Block
previously clogged up.
* GREEN BIRDO
Green Birdo is very annoying, especially here. She spits only fireballs, and you
have a single Mushroom Block to work with. It's difficult, but don't go back to
get your Mushroom Block until she's moved. Mario or Toad are good here, but bad
for the level, so Luigi is your best bet.
World 5-2
Again, I found Luigi to be a good choice. There are a lot of high jumps. There are
also a lot of narrow platforms, so Peach is also a good choice.
ACE COINS #1 Use the 1st set of Hoopsters to Super Jump left w/Luigi to get it.
#2 Ride the Ostro near the Porcupos and use Luigi's Super Jump; hard.
#3 In between two Hoopsters, again, use Luigi.
#4 Above the vase in the clouds; can't miss it.
#5 When dropping, hang left near the end to grab it. Watch for spikes!
YOSHI EGGS #1 Go down the first vase and come back with a Potion. Go right until you
reach a set of very thin pillars over pits, surrounded by Hoopsters.
Try to make the door on a thin pillar without dieing. The egg is on
one of the pillars.
#2 Climb the longest vine on the cloudy area. Defeat the first Snifit
you see on the right. Pick the Potion that was under him. Now, ride a
Hoopster to the very top. The egg is on the cloud right beside the
door. Very difficult.
* GIANT SHY GUY
Usually, at the start of stages, there are Hearts or something to start you out.
Here, there's merely a giant Shy Guy. Throwing giant enemies will make a Heart
float out, even if the enemy is still alive. Keep this in mind.
* BIRDO STRATEGY
You fight another Red Birdo here, in a narrow area. There are no Mushroom Blocks.
You can either use her eggs, which is getting rather tough with the new environ-
ments, or you can pick the Trouters and use them. When you run out of Trouters,
run off screen and back on and they'll return.
World 5-3
DANG, I hate this stage. Mainly because of the annoying Albatoss at the start; I
hate Albatoss and Beezo. Anyway, there's a warp if you want to skip to the end of
the game real quick. Or you can NOT CHEAT (what an idea!) and just play.
ACE COINS #1 At the start is a vase. The coin is over it.
#2 In between 1st and 2nd huge background trees.
#3 In the sandy area, it's in plain sight.
#4 Once outside, it's in the upper area while riding the carpet.
#5 A little after #4, but lower.
YOSHI EGGS #1 Get any of the 3 Potions at the start, and go to the t-shaped stru-
cture of logs. It's in the gulley before it.
#2 My strategy works, but may be kind of difficult. Once going under-
ground, swipe the Mushroom Block over the vase and place it one tile
from the side of the disposable blocks on the ground to the left of
the vase. Stand on the block and left the Bob-ombs wander around
until they blow up the floor. Take the Mushroom Block and drop down.
Place it on the left side of the small plateau at the bottom of the
hole. You, go left. The Bob-ombs can't reach you here. Get the Potion
and create it ON TOP of the Mushroom Block. Duck and jump through the
small gap onto the block. Enter the door, then immediately charge
the Super Jump to get the egg above. Difficult? Yeah.
* SHORTCUT TO WORLD 7
This one's easy. At the very start, you'll see the vase. Get up there one way or
another (easiest with Luigi) and get the Potion right beside it. Simply enter the
vase in Subspace to warp to 7-1. Major, great shortcut!
* DEFEATING CLAWGRIP
I developed my own strategy for this nasty fiend. First off, using Toad is a wise
decision. If you have trouble jumping, then stick with Peach. There are steps
leading up to Clawgrip, with a narrow pit at the bottom. Stand on the first step
and duck. Clawgrip will throw stones at you, but can't hit you while you are
ducking. When one rolls over, jump on top of it, charge another Super Jump, and
jump and throw the stone at Clawgrip. Repeat.
WORLD 6 - DESERTS 2
-------------------
Deserts revisited. Aside from the faster, more annoying quicksand, these stages are
still really easy.
World 6-1
The only threat is the quicker quicksand. Use characters with higher jumps.
ACE COINS #1 In between the 3rd log and the cacti; use Luigi.
#2 In between the 4th and 5th logs; ride a Pokey to get it. Very high.
#3 In the garden of cacti before the door. Easy to miss.
#4 Once entering, go down and left after going off the ledge.
#5 Near the 14th vase, easy to miss.
YOSHI EGGS #1 Go into the first vase in the stage, and come out with a Potion. Create
it on top of the vase, not on the quicksand. The egg will fall onto
the quicksand; grab it quickly (no pun intended)!
#2 Go to the end of the cave and get the Potion. The egg is somewhere in
the center of all of the vases.
* GETTING THE KEY
One of the 21 vases has a key inside. To make your search easier, it's the 17th
one, or the 5th one from the right. Inside, you have to dig for it and the Shy
Guys are annoying. This Phanto is faster, so be careful!
* GREEN BIRDO STRATEGY
You have 3 Mushroom Blocks. Use two to make a barrier for protection against the
Birdo's fireballs, then use the other to defeat her.
World 6-2
This stage requires you ride Albatoss, so Peach is a great choice.
(Get a higher Albatoss to make everything easier.)
ACE COINS #1 It's high near the start; can't miss it.
#2 Right before the high pillar with the Potion.
#3 This one is high after #2.
#4 High as well, after #3.
#5 A low one; requires death to get it.
YOSHI EGGS #1 There's a Potion on a pillar, with a thinner pillar beside it. The
egg is on the thinner one; easy.
#2 This one is A LOT harder. Catch a ride with an Albatoss moving left.
Go through the door and back in to regenerate the Potion. Go back to
the Potion from #1 and get it. Continue riding until you get to the
end. The egg sits on the thin pillar before the Ninji and the door.
* GREEN BIRDO STRATEGY
The giant Shy Guy works good for multiple hits, and for Hearts!
World 6-3
This stage looks hard, but it's really not. There's even a shortcut straight to the
end at the very start!
ACE COINS #1 Before the first skeleton log.
#2 Once you start climbing up, it's in plain sight.
#3 Another one in plain sight, on the left.
#4 Under the 5 vines with Hoopsters infesting them.
#5 As soon as you climb the last vine, charge a Super Jump upleft.
YOSHI EGGS #1 Get the Potion at the start and throw it onto the skeleton log. The
egg will fall into the quicksand, and sink VERY FAST!
#2 In the clouds, go into the vase and come out with a Potion. The egg
is on the cloud to the left of the vase.
* SHORTCUT TO BIRDO
At the very start, climb up the ladder and sink into the sand on the left. Then,
continuously jump while moving left under the wall. The other side has a door. Go
inside and you'll be on clouds. Jump across to the boss door.
* DEFEATING MOUSER
The only difference with Mouser this time is the Spark that raids the room. Wait
for one of Mouser's bombs to kill it, then defeat Mouser the normal way.
WORLD 7 - CLOUDS
----------------
The final world has only two stages, but they are hard. Prepare yourself, and use
Peach a lot!
World 7-1
A lot of climbing clouds and throwing Mushroom Blocks, so Toad is also a good choice.
ACE COINS #1 It's over the second bridge of disposable blocks.
#2 When flying left with the Albatoss; you can't miss it.
#3 After taking the rocket, use the left pillar to reach it.
#4 Above the dome of Mushroom Blocks with a Spark inside.
#5 Right beside Birdo!
YOSHI EGGS #1 At the second bridge of disposable blocks, jump atop the pillar and
grab the Potion. The egg is right there near it.
#2 At the top of the last screen, get the Potion on the right and you'll
find the egg easily.
* RIDE ALBATOSS
Instead of traveling right after climbing the ladder, you must ride an Albatoss
left. This isn't very easy to figure out on your own.
World 7-2
This stage is the most difficult of any stages, spawning a huge maze with two
different paths to Wart. There are even Birdos in the stage as normal enemies! Be
very careful here. Peach works good.
ACE COINS #1 After the vase of Bob-ombs in the first room, do a floating duck jump
right and proceed right, avoiding the Pansers, to get it near the
spikes. Duck-jumping-floating works good.
#2 Now, jump up the treadmill and continue right. Climb the chain. Move
left; it's in the center of the room with Sparks.
#3 Continue up the stage. Go in the first door you see (take the left
chains). In this area, climb down the ladders until you see the coin
to the left. Float over to it.
#4 Go back through that door and continue up. Go through this door. It's
in plain sight in the next room.
#5 Continue right, then go down the chain. Run from the Birdo, then head
left. Skip the locked door and go down the chain at the end. Run from
this Birdo as well. Go down the chain. Proceed down and you'll see it
near the first set of spikes.
YOSHI EGGS #1 Go to the area where you got Ace Coin #3. Drop all the way down and
climb down the ladder. Get the rightmost plant, a Potion. Create a
door to the left of the door you used to get in there. The egg is in
plain sight.
#2 Take the chain left of Ace Coin #1 and follow the path. Go down the
room with tons of Mushroom Blocks. Go through the bottom door. In the
next room, go right and go through the first door you see. In this
room, get the Potion and create the door near the door you used to
get in there.
* DEFEATING BIRDOS
There are two Birdos here; one has a key. So, defeat them even if you refuse to.
* DEFEATING HAWK FACE
Instead of using the hawk as an exit, you fight it! Just smash its face with
Mushroom Blocks and you'll do fine.
* DEFEATING WART
Stand on the leftmost, purple platform. Jump and float over his snot bubbles.
Catch or pick up vegetables when they pop up your way. Hop to the rightmost
platform. As soon as Wart opens his big mouth, and right before the snot bubbles
start shooting out, throw the vegetable into his mouth. Repeat.
CONGRATULATIONS!! YOU FINISHED SUPER MARIO 2!!

That concludes my FAQ. I hope it helped! Bai bai and God bless!
Every day of their vacation, these two guys rented a boat and fished. One day they caught thirty fish. Joe said, "Moe, mark this spot so that we can come back here tomorrow!" The next day when they were driving to rent the boat, Joe asked, "Moe, did you mark that spot?" Moe replied, "Yep. I painted a big 'X' on the bottom of the boat!" Joe growled. "You old fool! What if we don't get the same boat today?" |
